Scores killed as unknown gunmen attack Taraba community.

Scores of persons were confirmed to have been killed by unknown gunmen in Garin Baka village of Ardo-Kola Local Government Council of Taraba State.

Though the police, at the time of filing this report could not confirm the exact number of casualties, but admitted that there was an attack on the community.

The command spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, who made the confirmation, said the command was yet to know the number of casualties recorded in the attack.

According to him, the official report of the incident was being awaited from the Police Divisional headquarters of the council, which is located in Sunkani.

The gunmen, our correspondent learnt, stormed the community in their large numbers on Friday evening, shooting sporadically, killing several people.

Apart from leaving others with various degrees of gunshot injuries, several houses and cows were also confirmed to have been set ablaze.

The attackers, who took the community unaware, were said to have struck at about 7.30 p.m when the people were busy breaking their fasting.

A resident of the community told news reporters that they were praying in the mosque when the attackers came calling.

Our source from the community, who claims that two of his family members were killed in the attack, said the number of casualties could be above fifteen.

At the time of filing this report, ten corpses were confirmed by the people of the community to have been recovered.
