Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United after he was not included in new manager Ruben Amorim’s backroom staff. The 48-year-old Dutchman had stepped in as interim manager following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
Van Nistelrooy, who initially joined United as an assistant coach on a two-year contract in July, managed a successful stint as caretaker boss with three wins and one draw in his four games in charge. However, according to BBC, Amorim opted not to retain Van Nistelrooy, a former Netherlands striker who played five memorable seasons with United.
The club released a statement honoring Van Nistelrooy’s legacy, saying:
“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend… We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”
United also announced that coaches Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel have departed alongside Van Nistelrooy. However, former United midfielder Darren Fletcher will continue in his coaching role, serving as a vital link between the first team and the academy.
The club stated they will “confirm the full men’s first-team coaching composition” under the leadership of new Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim “in due course.”
