Rivers State Police Declare Ex-Militant Leader Wanted Amid State Crisis

The Rivers State Police Command has declared former Niger Delta militant leader, Gabriel ‘General’ Asabuja, wanted following his alleged provocative statements in a viral video amidst the ongoing crisis in the state.

Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu announced this development on Tuesday night during an appearance on Channel Television’s ‘Politics Today’. Disu condemned Asabuja’s actions, highlighting the panic and concern generated by his threats both within and beyond the state. He assured the public that law enforcement agencies are actively working to apprehend the former militant leader and emphasized the seriousness of the threats.

Despite Asabuja’s defiance in response to previous police invitations, the Police Commissioner reiterated the commitment to bringing him to justice.

In a related incident, the Rivers State government identified the prime suspect in the explosion that occurred during a protest in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, which resulted in one fatality. Commissioner for Health Dr. Adaeze Oreh revealed this information while addressing journalists at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Oreh explained that the suspect was initially presented as an accident victim at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward. However, upon examination, doctors discovered injuries consistent with a blast and alerted the authorities. Most of the individuals who brought the suspect fled, leaving only one person with him.

Dr. Oreh stated, “The Commissioner of Police has been alerted and investigations have begun. The suspect was brought in unconscious but has been stabilized and is recovering in the ICU. The area has been secured by the police, and a thorough investigation will be conducted.”
