Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared victory following Rivers State’s ex-Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, making a recent new find, alleging suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara as responsible for the bomb attack on Rivers State House of Assembly on October 29, 2023.
Nwaeke claimed Fubara ordered his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to conduct the attack in an attempt to prevent his impeachment by lawmakers loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
APC Responds: “We’ve Been Proven Right”
Responding to Nwaeke’s claim, APC Rivers State Chairman Tony Okocha reaffirmed that the party long ago blamed Fubara for masterminding the attack, which was widely criticized as an attack on democracy.
Okocha highlighted that as the former Head of Service and the third most senior Rivers State officer, Nwaeke’s version could not be dismissed as hearsay.
The public revelation by Dr. George Nwaeke has exonerated the APC in Rivers State. We have always believed that Governor Fubara orchestrated the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Rivers people woke up on October 29, 2023, to find a legislative complex in ruins, one of the best in Nigeria,” Okocha said.
He also accused Fubara of authorizing the demolition of the Assembly complex within 48 hours of the bombing, amidst cheers from his supporters.
Security Agencies Must Investigate – APC
Okocha alleged that Nwaeke’s claims also vindicate APC’s position that Fubara was responsible for the political crisis in the state, which prompted President Bola Tinubu to intervene to restore peace.
He called on security agencies to conduct thorough investigations and take action against the culprits.
“Dr. Nwaeke’s testimony, which is part of the eyewitness account involving the cash payments for the attack, makes APC the sole credible opposition in Rivers State, a party that upholds good governance and the voice of the voiceless. We trust that the security agencies will carry out their activities professionally to get to the bottom of this matter,” Okocha said.
The Rivers APC chairman also justified the Nwaeke attacks from Fubara’s supporters as desperate attempts to silence the truth.
“No intimidation shall stop Fubara’s activities from being revealed. APC will continue to be watchdogs and fight for Rivers State to be accountable,” he further stated.
The party also aimed at positioning itself as the alternative first choice for governing in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
