The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of disrespecting judicial pronouncements, alleging that the governor only obeys court rulings that favor him. Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Okocha criticized a recent State High Court ruling on the chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, despite the matter being pending at the Court of Appeal.
“The governor does not respect laws. He obeys them when they suit him and disregards them when they don’t. I don’t know of any political system that operates that way,” Okocha stated.
He also decried the deteriorating state of Port Harcourt, describing it as a “Garbage City” instead of its former title, Garden City Okocha lamented the lack of streetlights on major roads, including Ikwerre Road, Airport Road, G.U. Ake Road, and Aba Road, warning of security risks posed by the darkness.
However, in a swift response the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Warisenibo Joseph Johnson, dismissed Okocha’s comments as irrelevant, stating that his faction of the APC was no longer recognized following a court ruling affirming Emeka Bekee as the party’s chairman. Johnson emphasized that Governor Fubara’s administration remains focused on development, with visible progress that the people of Rivers State can attest to.
