Rema Challenges Norms with His Sophomore Album ‘HEIS’

Rema, has once again made waves in the global music scene with the release of his second album, HEIS. Following the massive success of his hit single “Calm Down”, which propelled him to worldwide recognition, Rema’s new project showcases his bold attempt to defy expectations and push boundaries.

In a recent interview on “The Breakfast Club”, the Afrobeats star explained that the creative direction for HEIS was driven by a desire to challenge the conventions of Nigerian pop music. The musician, who reached an impressive milestone of one billion Spotify streams with an Afrobeats track, emphasized that his latest work was an effort to create something distinct from the mainstream sounds typically associated with the genre.

“I like the way I moved on to my new project. I don’t like to move the way people expect. I don’t like to move with the rules,” Rema shared during the interview, underscoring his determination to break free from the norms that shape the industry.

Rema’s vision for HEIS became even clearer during a listening party in London, where he discussed his intention to craft Afrobeats in a way that sets it apart from other artists. He expressed a desire to produce a sound that is uniquely difficult for foreign artists to replicate, distancing himself from those who are making it easier for others to copy the Afrobeats genre.

In his “Breakfast Club” interview, Rema also offered personal insights into his journey, including the challenges he faced convincing his mother to embrace his decision to pursue a career as an artist. This revelation adds a deeper layer to his story, showing the perseverance and passion that drives his artistic choices.
