PSG Ordered to Pay Kylian Mbappé €55 Million in Unpaid Wages

The French league’s legal commission has directed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay Kylian Mbappé the €55 million ($61 million) in unpaid wages he claims are owed to him, the league confirmed on Thursday. This decision follows Mbappé’s rejection of a mediation offer from the commission to resolve the dispute with his former club.

The league’s confirmation came a day after a meeting in Paris between PSG officials and Mbappé’s representatives. Mbappé had requested the commission’s intervention to address the nonpayment of three months’ salary and the final third of a loyalty bonus.

Despite the ruling, PSG has expressed its intention to pursue further legal action. The club stated, “In light of the limitations of the commission’s legal scope to take a complete decision on this matter, the matter must now be contested in another legal forum, to which Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to present all the facts over the coming months and year.”

PSG argues that they are not obligated to pay the money under an agreement made when Mbappé was sidelined prior to the 2023-24 season. This agreement was based on Mbappé’s decision not to extend his contract, which allegedly included a condition to forgo bonuses related to his reintegration into the team.

The club added, “As a matter of law and fact, the player has made clear, repeated public and private commitments that must be respected, having been afforded unprecedented benefits by the club over seven years in Paris. And the club looks forward to these being upheld in the proper forum, if the player seeks to pursue this incomprehensibly reputationally damaging matter further, in due course.”

Mbappé’s tenure with PSG ended amid significant tension. The club felt betrayed after offering Mbappé the most lucrative contract in its history in 2022. Meanwhile, Mbappé was dissatisfied with the club’s failure to fulfill promises regarding key player signings. Although Mbappé was presented to fans with a jersey marked 2025, his actual contract was set for 2024 with an option for an additional year.
