The Presidency has defended President Bola Tinubu‘s record of appointments, saying a breakdown of recent appointments indicated an even spread across Nigeria’s regions, with the North filling slightly more spots than the South.
The President has so far appointed 71 individuals from the North and 63 from the South into key federal positions, according to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare. Dare made this known through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday amid controversies over perceived regional imbalance in federal appointments.
Dare argued that the President remains dedicated to equity, competence, and national unity in all his decisions, insisting that Tinubu had never made a decision based on tribal or religious considerations.”People have the tendency to corner new appointments so far made by the President and see them with a tribal eye,” Dare stated.
But it is too early to conclude that appointments are biased.”. Tinubu has only done two years in office and there are so many appointments to be made.”A breakdown of the 63 southern appointments shows that the South-West is leading with 26 appointees, followed by the South-South with 21 and the South-East with 16.Dare also made reference to Tinubu’s Lagos State Governorship as proof of his detribalised nature, noting that his cabinet then had members from across the nation, regardless of origin.
“Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he remains the same man who is not blinded by religion or tribe,” he said.
He argued that a wider and more objective consideration would prove that the Tinubu presidency is moving in the right direction when it comes to federal character and national inclusion.
