Police Arrest Illegal Arms Manufacturers and Cult Hitman in Benue and Delta States

The Nigeria Police Force has made significant arrests in its ongoing efforts to curb crime and illegal arms proliferation. Two suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, were apprehended for allegedly running an illegal weapons manufacturing factory in Tse Akamabe, Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State.

Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi revealed in a statement on Friday, January 17, 2025, that a well-coordinated operation led to the discovery of the factory. Items recovered included nine locally fabricated pistols, an unfinished AK-47 rifle, two gas cylinders, four vice machines, a filing machine, and several other tools used for weapons production.

In a separate operation in Delta State, police raided an apartment in the DSC area and arrested 32-year-old Prosper Akeni, identified as a notorious hitman for the Eiye confraternity. The raid yielded an array of firearms, including an English revolver pistol, a Beretta pistol, four locally made guns, a locally made revolver pistol, and 25 rounds of ammunition.

Akeni confessed to being the custodian of the weapons for his cult group, where he served as the leader. Further arrests were made in Kebbi State. On December 31, 2024, police arrested 25-year-old Yunusa Haruna for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death.

Similarly, on January 8, 2025, Abubakar Ummar was detained in Zuru Village for reportedly killing Mohammed Bala during an argument. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the operatives for these achievements and urged them to intensify efforts to ensure peace and security nationwide. He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to aid the police in their fight against crime.
