The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended six men accused of repeatedly assaulting a 13-year-old boy over a three-year period.
Making the announcement during his first press briefing at the command headquarters in Uyo on Monday, State Police Commissioner Baba Azare said the arrests followed a tip-off from concerned journalists on January 8.
The suspects were identified as Okwudili Levi Okeke (34), Idara Itam Daniel (23), David Udoh James (23), Udofia Edem Udosen (29), David Bassey Bassey (26), and Daniel Jacob Edet (30).
According to CP Azare, police investigation revealed that Okeke allegedly introduced others to the criminal acts and had victimized multiple individuals across the state.
“This is a crime against humanity and will not be condoned,” the Police Commissioner stated firmly.
He assured that the suspects would face prosecution once the investigation is completed.
