Peter Obi Refutes Claims of Considering Vice Presidency for 2027 Election

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, has firmly rejected speculation that he might entertain the idea of running as a vice presidential candidate in the 2027 election.

In a statement on his official X account, Obi addressed the confusion stemming from a recent interview with News Central TV, accusing some individuals of deliberately distorting his comments.

Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, stressed his focus on addressing Nigeria’s current issues rather than being distracted by future political ambitions.

He clarified that his primary concern remains tackling pressing national challenges such as hunger, poverty, and insecurity.

“I have been overwhelmed with calls and concerns about the interview I gave to News Central TV,” Obi said.

“In that interview, I clarified my position, but certain individuals have manipulated my words. I want to make it clear that I have never stated any intention to run as a vice presidential candidate.”

He further explained that while he is open to collaborating with others who share his vision for Nigeria’s advancement, he is not seeking any political office, including the presidency.

Obi emphasized his commitment to the Labour Party and to working with those whose goals align with genuine progress for Nigeria, rather than mere state capture.

“My focus is on contributing to Nigeria’s development, and I believe this can be achieved without holding any specific office.

If I choose to run for a position in 2027, it will be with those committed to meaningful progress, not just for winning elections,” he added.

Obi concluded by reaffirming his dedication to Nigeria’s progress and his willingness to work with others who have a similar commitment, making it clear that he has never expressed interest in the vice presidency or any other political office.
