Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that the team’s recent struggles have taken a toll on his health, affecting his sleep and appetite.
City suffered their seventh loss in 10 matches across all competitions after a 2-0 defeat to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, December 11.
Reflecting on the club’s poor form, Guardiola shared his concerns during a conversation with former teammate Luca Toni on Prime Video.
“Sometimes you don’t need a great team to be happy,” Guardiola told Toni. “There are no players or coaches who don’t go through tough periods when results aren’t good. It’s normal—it happens.”
Guardiola admitted that the pressure is affecting him personally. “I get nervous, I have bad days, and stress makes me uneasy.
I’m not eating well and can only manage light meals, like soup, at night. I sleep worse now. But I’m the same coach who won the Premier League five months ago,” he explained.
Despite the challenges, the City boss remains hopeful. “I believe this will be a year of great difficulties, but if we find continuity and qualify for the Champions League, we’ll be a tough opponent for anyone,” he said.
