Oyebanji Declares Bid for Second Term, Vows to Break Ekiti’s One-Term Governor Jinx

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has formally declared his second term bid, declaring he carries a divine mandate to end the state’s decades-long jinx of one-term governors.

Oyebanji made this declaration yesterday after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja.

Leaning on the support of the party leadership and stakeholders, the governor vowed his re-election would consolidate the state’s achievements, ensure continuity in government, and make the APC even more formidable in the 2027 general election.

“No governor since Ekiti State was created has served a second term. They come and go, and this has hindered our growth. By the grace of God, I have a divine mandate to smash the jinx,” he stated.

Oyebanji noted that with him as the leader, APC in Ekiti remains one, adding that with the help of the party, the 2027 election would be a “walkover” for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates.

Highlighting his track record, the governor further averred that his government had also completed nearly 80% of inherited projects, restored electricity to more than 60 communities in decades of darkness, and laid firm foundations for productivity through infrastructure, electricity, and healthcare investment.

Highlighting that his first-term agenda was constructed on “continuity for shared prosperity,” he ensured development projects were not left in limbo.

Accompanied by him at the declaration, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele expressed appreciation to Oyebanji’s infrastructure legacy, human capital, and governance stability.

“All hands are on deck in Ekiti. All previous governors, serving and former lawmakers, and leaders in both parties are of one voice. This is the first time we are enjoying so broad a consensus,” Bamidele said.

APC Ekiti governorship primary election takes place on October 27, 2025.
