Tension gripped a hospital in Owerri, Imo State, as an angry crowd confronted a nursing mother accused of causing the death of her underage domestic helper. The incident, which was captured on video and shared widely online, has sparked widespread condemnation across social media platforms.
According to journalist Nonsonkwa Ochi War, neighbors apprehended the woman after discovering what had happened to the young maid. The tragic incident allegedly stemmed from the child’s simple act of watching television with the employer’s children – a punishment that ultimately proved fatal.
Dramatic scenes unfolded at the hospital as community members surrounded the accused woman, who held her own child while attempting to explain her actions. Her voice was repeatedly drowned out by the outraged crowd, who had to be cautioned against physical confrontation.
“Guy, no hit am, no hit am,” one voice warned, while another indicated she would be handed over to NAPTIP (National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons).
Witnesses filmed the heartbreaking scene, documenting the maid’s lifeless body while expressing their horror. “Very wicked woman.
Is that not someone’s child?” one onlooker demanded, while others drew attention to the victim’s condition: “See her body, see what she did to her.”
The accused woman’s attempts to provide her version of events – including details about a trip to the market and cooking – were consistently interrupted by the angry crowd, who labeled her “wicked” and demanded justice for the deceased child.
