Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has opened up about the motivations behind the extravagant burial he organized for his late mother. The Nigerian billionaire, who garnered significant attention for the grandeur of the ceremony, revealed his deep-seated reasons in a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo.
Obi Cubana explained that his family has a history of short lifespans, with no member living past the age of 80. His father died at 66, his grandfather at 78, and his uncle at 75. Desiring to break this generational pattern, Obi Cubana expressed his hope that his mother would be the one to live beyond this age threshold.
He shared that he and his siblings had been preparing and saving for her funeral long before her passing, intending to honor her in a grand manner. Despite their efforts, his mother passed away at the age of 78, just shy of the milestone 80th birthday.
Obi Cubana reflected on this loss, noting that although she did not live to see her 80th birthday, they chose to celebrate her life with an extraordinary send-off, fulfilling the promise he had made to her.
