Nigerian Army Crushes Bandit Strongholds in North-West, Vows Sustained Assault

The Nigerian Army has recorded notable gains in its fight against banditry in the North-West, killing several top kingpins and crushing strongholds in Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states.

Speaking at a special Eid-el-Fitr luncheon hosted by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Brig.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose represented by Maj. Gen. A.K. Ibrahim commended troops for gallantry and dedication.

“We have in the first quarter of 2025 neutralized some of the high-profile bandit leaders and their footmen and destroyed their enclaves. These successes are all testaments to your commitment and sacrifice,” he said.

He thanked dead and wounded soldiers’ sacrifices, urging troops to be vigilant even as the Army continues to provide necessary support, including new equipment and welfare packages.

Maj. Gen. Ibrahim, while speaking on behalf of the COAS, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to upholding its age-long core values of sacrifice, dedication, and discipline.

17 Brigade Commandant, Katsina, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, appreciated the COAS for the support and acknowledged the Katsina State Government’s intervention in security.

The occasion, meant to lift the troops’ morale, included prayers, messages of goodwill, and a shared meal in the spirit of Eid-el-Fitr.
