The Nigerian government has recovered $52.88 million in assets linked to former Petroleum Resources Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke from the United States. The announcement was made by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, during a formal asset agreement signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday.

Fagbemi disclosed that $50 million of the recovered funds would be utilized through the World Bank to support rural electrification projects, while $2 million would be allocated to the International Institute of Justice to enhance the justice system and fight corruption. He described the recovery as a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and the United States to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law, adding that it aligns with President Bola Tinubu‘s commitment to addressing corruption.

United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the use of the recovered funds to ensure they benefit the Nigerian people.
