The Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) was founded sixty-one years ago, yet the nation continues to purchase military supplies like weapons and ammunition. Six decades after DICON was founded in 1964 to meet military requirements, the Nigerian military continues to rely significantly on foreign military supplies.
In order to acquire the weapons and ammunition required for its operations in 2025, the Nigerian military has allocated N25,594,414,841 in its budget. The Armed Forces also allocated N16,134,661,311 in the 2025 funding bill that was presented to the National Assembly for the purchase of protection kits, which include uniforms, helmets, ballistic vests, and other items.
This is on top of the funding allocated for other equipment, such as vehicles, airplanes, and other logistics.
