In a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the community of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, 27-year-old Wilfred Ogochukwu Ifeanyi was brutally murdered in front of his family just over two weeks after his wedding, with his pregnant wife temporarily kidnapped in the aftermath. The tragic events unfolded on Christmas Eve when Ifeanyi, who had married his sweetheart on December 7, drove to his mother’s house to pick her up for church service.
What should have been a joyous family gathering during the holiday season turned into a nightmare as gunmen attacked just as the family was preparing to leave. According to Chief Mike Nwaukoni, the Traditional Prime Minister of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Ifeanyi was gunned down in front of his horrified mother and new wife, who was then abducted by the assailants.
The wife, who is expecting their first child, was later released after spending several days in captivity. The tragedy cuts especially deep for the family, as Ifeanyi’s mother had single-handedly raised him and his two siblings after losing her husband 24 years ago, when Ifeanyi was just three years old.
“Like most families, he drove down to Ogwashi-Uku to see his mom,” shared Onwuegbuzie Ambrose in a social media post. “Now his wife is left devastated, losing her husband in such a manner.”
