The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has ordered a thorough investigation into reports of civilian casualties during recent Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrikes targeting terrorists in Zamfara State.
According to a statement by NAF spokesman Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, the move comes in response to public concern over the alleged incidents. A fact-finding team, led by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Coordination and Cooperation in the Civil-Military Relations Branch, has been dispatched to assess the situation comprehensively.
The team will work closely with state and local government officials, as well as other key stakeholders, to provide a detailed report and guide future actions. Reaffirming NAF’s commitment to professionalism and transparency, Akinboyewa stated, “The life and well-being of every Nigerian remain a core value of the Service as we continue efforts to neutralize threats to national peace and security.”
He assured the public that NAF is refining its operational procedures to prioritize the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure, in adherence to global standards and the need to maintain public trust.
