Nollywood actress May Edochie has responded to allegations made by comedian Chidi Uzoma, popularly known as Baba De Baba, following his recent arrest. Baba De Baba claimed in a video that Edochie was trying to harm him and had even kidnapped his son.
However, the actress’s lawyer has now set the record straight, confirming that the comedian was arrested for cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and other criminal activities. The lawyer explained that Baba De Baba had been under police surveillance for two weeks before his arrest.
Authorities reportedly lured him into custody by pretending to negotiate an endorsement deal with him. Believing the offer was real, the comedian allegedly demanded ₦10 million upfront and additional payments for each appearance. When he showed up to sign the contract, he was immediately apprehended.
Legal action against Baba De Baba had been in motion for a while. The lawyer revealed that a criminal petition was filed against him last month, along with two separate civil lawsuits—one in the Lagos High Court and another in the Abuja High Court.
He also hinted at releasing chat exchanges with the comedian to further expose his alleged actions. May Edochie had previously sued Baba De Baba for defamation, making this latest development a significant turn in their ongoing legal battle.
Reactions have poured in following the arrest, with many supporting Edochie’s legal actions:
- @Michelle Daniels: “Good. He should defend his assassination claims against May. No need to share the chats—let the law take its course. I pray they make an example of him. He even went as far as bullying May Edochie’s daughter.”
- @Igwe Sunday Chidozie: “Imagine how he would have boasted online if he actually secured the endorsement. But this guy is greedy—after ₦10 million, he still wanted extra pay for every appearance, as if he were Barack Obama.”
- @Rejoice Eze: “I knew this would be the outcome when he was shouting about being kidnapped. He thought he was playing smart, but it backfired.”
- @Ngoran Yvette: “So this is how desperate he was for work? Noise maker.”
