Manchester United £17million summer signing, Noussair Mazraoui, is set to miss up to two months of action after being diagnosed with a rare heart condition. According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Mazraoui has been diagnosed with a form of cardiac arrhythmia, a condition that affects the heart’s rhythm.
The Moroccan full-back, who joined United this summer, has undergone a medical procedure to address the condition. Schira reports that Mazraoui has had heart-related issues in the past, but the recent diagnosis has sidelined him for the foreseeable future.
Cardiac arrhythmia, also referred to as an irregular heartbeat, occurs when the heart beats too fast, too slow, or in an abnormal pattern. The NHS estimates that more than 2 million people in the UK experience arrhythmias, which, when properly diagnosed, allow most individuals to lead normal lives. However, prevention isn’t always possible, though maintaining a healthy lifestyle can reduce the likelihood of developing heart conditions.
Mazraoui has dealt with heart issues before. In January 2023, he was diagnosed with heart tissue inflammation after contracting Covid-19 while playing for Bayern Munich. This condition caused him to miss Morocco’s World Cup quarter-final victory over Portugal in Qatar. Upon his return to Bayern, medical tests revealed inflammation in his pericardium, the fluid-filled sac that surrounds and protects the heart.
