A Nigerian man, Kesari, has reportedly been arrested for allegedly spending erroneously deposited funds from a mistaken bank transfer into his account to purchase a new car.
The incident, which went viral nearly immediately on social media, was shared by someone on X (formerly Twitter), leading to extensive public debate.
According to news reports, Kesari just bought a new car and boasted it on social media.
However, it later transpired that the money withdrawn from his account belonged to someone else.
His bank account user, supposedly without intent, deposited this money unintentionally in his bank account.
Rather than report the error, Kesari is said to have immediately used the money to fulfill his car dreams.
The actual owner of the funds eventually noticed the mistake and alerted the bank, which promptly reversed the transaction by deducting the amount from Kesari’s account.
Inensed by the sudden withdrawal, Kesari was purportedly heading to the bank to report a complaint — when police officers greeted her and arrested her on the spot.
The story has since caused reactions to spin on social media, as several Nigerians weighed in with a dash of humor, astonishment, and legal commentary.
