Fashion designer Mafe Micayah Onyemaechi Adewale has reaffirmed his commitment to showcasing the best of African and urban fashion on the international stage, particularly in the UK and beyond. Since venturing into fashion in 2012, he has relentlessly pursued his passion across continents, redefining African fashion with a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
Despite earning a degree in Computer Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, his heart was always in fashion. In 2015, he moved to Lagos, Nigeria, to refine his skills, working with some of the country’s top fashion houses, including Gabriel Tosh Luxury, Exclusive Yours Clothing (EYC), Official Neye Clothings (ONC), Yomi Casual, Oye Couture, and Teezy Clothings. These experiences deepened his expertise in craftsmanship, branding, and fashion business management, ultimately fueling his vision to take African fashion to the world.
In 2018, Micayah launched his own brand, Waley Clothing, a bold statement that African fashion deserves a place on the global map. His designs ranging from Senators, Agbadas, Natives, Suits, Pants, Dansiki, and Shirts quickly gained recognition for their fusion of African heritage and contemporary elegance. Recognizing the growing demand for stylish urban wear, he later expanded into customized streetwear, including hoodies, polos, joggers, and modern casuals.
In 2023, Micayah took Waley Clothing to new heights, relocating to the UK with an ambitious mission: to establish it as an international luxury and urban fashion brand. His journey has been nothing short of remarkable, crafting over 100 bespoke outfits for diverse clients and featuring prominently in high-profile weddings, fashion shows, and cultural festivals across London and beyond.
With every design, Micayah is pushing the boundaries of African and urban fashion, blending heritage with global influences. His ultimate goal? To position Waley Clothing as a globally recognized fashion powerhouse, competing with the world’s best while staying true to its African roots.
