A corps member in Lagos, Ushie Rita, also known as Raye, (state code LA/24B/8325), has caused a stir by publicly stating she doesn’t care about getting her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, insisting her life is “great” without it.
During a lively TikTok session with friends, Rita didn’t hold back, accusing NYSC officials of breaking their own rules while trying to act untouchable.
“I was doing just fine before this certificate,” she said. “NYSC is acting all high and mighty, saying they won’t give it to me, but their own people are the ones messing up. Honestly, I’m done with it—I don’t even want the certificate anymore.”
When Vanguard reached out to ask if she’d accept a two-month extension of her service year, Rita brushed it off, saying she wasn’t ready to talk about it.
The NYSC, for its part, has pushed back against rumors swirling on social media that Rita’s certificate was withheld because she criticized the government.
In an official statement, they called those claims “completely baseless,” clarifying that her certificate was held back for “valid disciplinary reasons” that had nothing to do with politics.
According to them, Rita was one of 131 corps members disciplined for various infractions.
In her case, the NYSC says she skipped the mandatory April 2025 biometric clearance, leading to a two-month service extension—a penalty they insist aligns with their bye-laws.
Rita first grabbed attention back in March 2025 with a viral video where she vented about the skyrocketing cost of goods in the market and took a bold swipe at President Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“If more Nigerians spoke out about what we’re going through, maybe the government would actually change things,” she said in the video.
“To our president, I don’t know if there’s anyone worse than you, but you’re a terrible president.”
