A former presidential aspirant of the Labour Party (LP), Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, has appealed to the party to select its next national chairman from the northern region of the country to ensure regional balance and equity in the leadership structure of the party.
Speaking at the Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) and stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Faduri, through his representative, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, expressed happiness that the controversy that had surrounded Barr. Julius Abure had been laid to rest.
He also congratulated Senator Nenadi Usman on her assumption of office as the Chairman of the Party’s Caretaker Committee, describing it as a new beginning for the LP.
Faduri emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and regional balance, noting, “It’s obvious that the next presidential candidate of the Labour Party will be from the South, and it will not be fair for both the national chairman and the presidential candidate to hail from the same zone.”
He went on, “Justice and fairness demand that if we are to have a southerner as flagbearer, then the national chairman should be from the North.”
Calling it a turning point for the LP, he said, “This is the best opportunity that we have as a party to undo the wrongs and sufficiently reposition the Labour Party in perspective for 2027. Nigerians have placed so much trust in us, and we cannot afford to disappoint them.”.
