The Kogi State Government has taken a significant step toward improving rural infrastructure and enhancing agricultural productivity with the award of contracts for the maintenance and rehabilitation of 106.36 kilometers of rural farm roads under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

The contracts, valued at ₦6,387,454,983.00, were signed on Monday during a ceremony in Lokoja, marked by optimism and commitment to rural development.

State Project Coordinator, Engineer Sheidu Obansa, emphasized the administration’s focus on inclusive development under Governor Usman Ododo. He noted that the contracts were awarded to reputable construction firms, including Philko Limited, K-Class Multi-Global Engineering Construction Company JV Ferotex Construction Limited, Zarcus Construction Limited, and NAEL and Bin Harmal Hydro Export Nigeria Limited (NBHH), following a rigorous evaluation process.

The contractors are expected to deliver high-quality work within the stipulated timeline. In addition, the government has allocated ₦713,458,813.97 for cross-drainage structure interventions across 66 locations. This effort will address critical drainage challenges, with G-Ariths Engineering Limited, Swaleys Nigeria Limited, and Simat Construction and Civil Engineering handling key projects.

Engineer Obansa assured contractors of full government support to ensure the projects are executed efficiently and meet quality standards. Similarly, Infrastructure Engineer AbdulBasit Musa called for close collaboration between contractors and the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) to guarantee the success of these transformative initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Mohammed Ibrahim of Philko Limited pledged to adhere to project timelines and deliver quality results. He expressed gratitude to the government for the opportunity to contribute to rural development and economic growth.

This initiative follows a similar project launched in October last year for the rehabilitation of 65.25 kilometers of rural roads, with significant progress already made. The Kogi State Government’s sustained investments in infrastructure demonstrate its commitment to bridging rural development gaps, fostering economic transformation, and improving livelihoods across the state.
