Controversial journalist and social media personality Kemi Olunloyo has publicly severed links with the Olunloyo family following the death of her father, former Oyo State Governor Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, who passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
In a series of emotional Facebook and TikTok posts, Kemi announced that she would neither be mourning alongside the family nor accepting condolences from the public, citing deep-rooted trauma and a troubled relationship with her now late father.
“I am NO longer a member of the Olunloyo family,” she posted on Facebook on April 9. “I made it obvious to you in 2024 that I was never going to return to Nigeria, even if my parents died.”
It was a product of years of physical and emotional abuse, particularly from her father, that Kemi has opted to disown the family, she indicated.
She described her father as a two-faced individual — one who has a face for the outside world, and another behind the closed doors of their home.
“My father destroyed our family. He tortured us physically and emotionally,” she wrote. “To the world, he was a distinguished intellectual. To us, he were a different individual entirely.”
She continued to accuse her father of deep occult practices, which she alleges became more evident after her relationship with her stepmother, Ronke Sonaike — who came to be known as Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo.
“When Ronke came into our family, my dad started all manner of occultic practices,” said Kemi. “It’s too long. It’s too painful.”
Despite the bitterness, Kemi said she had gained some closure. “I have forgiven my dad for everything that he did,” she said, though she made it clear the scars remained.
She accused Ronke of being a source of the family’s dysfunction, going as far as stating that Ronke once attempted to poison her mother, who was hospitalized.
Kemi also revealed the painful loss of her brother, Tayo, who died in 2021 aged 51.
According to her, Tayo had suffered a severe brain injury during the “Ali Must Go” students’ protest and lived with its effects for over four decades.
Tayo would have made a wonderful mathematician,” she lamented. “But they ruined his destiny.”
Kemi, in her posts, recalled how the declining health of their father following a stroke he suffered in 2021 was worsened by family isolation.
She accused Ronke of restricting access to Dr. Olunloyo, not letting anyone else talk to him during his final days.
“After the stroke, no one could talk to Daddy on the phone. Ronke did not give anyone access,” she stated.
