The Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of Sa’idu Abdulkadir, a 400-level student of Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), by a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Dutsinma Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred on February 23, 2025, when a commercial motorcyclist transporting Abdulkadir was stopped by a CJTF team in a Hilux vehicle. One of the JTF members allegedly opened fire, hitting both the student and the motorcyclist.
Police Assure Justice for Victims
According to the Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Abubakar, law enforcement officers rushed the victims to Dutsinma General Hospital, but Abdulkadir was later transferred to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Katsina, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Abubakar expressed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice, stating that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. He also confirmed that the police are working closely with the university management and other stakeholders to ensure accountability.
University Shutdown Following the Incident
In response to the unrest that followed the shooting, the management of FUDMA has temporarily shut down the institution. However, authorities assured that normalcy has been restored in the area.
