Kano Police Disrupt Planned Protest, Arrest 17 Suspected Thugs

The Kano State Police Command has disrupted a planned violent protest and arrested 17 suspected thugs in a proactive security operation.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated that security agencies acted on credible intelligence and deployed personnel to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

“Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has taken proactive measures to ensure public safety. As a result, 17 suspected thugs have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing,” Kiyawa said.

He warned against unlawful gatherings, processions, or violence, stressing that security agencies would respond swiftly to any threats to public peace. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

Meanwhile, there was a heavy security presence around Gidan Nassarawa, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, resides, and the Kano State Government House. Earlier in the day, a group of demonstrators attempted to mobilize around Kofar Nassarawa,  but police officers dispersed them using tear gas.
