Kano Police Assure Residents of Security Ahead of Eid-el-Fitr Celebrations

The Kano State Police Command has assured the residents that all necessary steps have been put in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Bakori, gave the assurance when he hosted a delegation from the Kano State Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), led by Dr. Musa Sufi, and that of Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by its State Chairman, Ambassador Comrade Ali Hassan Tudun Bayero.

According to a release, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, Police Command, said that the delegations showed concern over the security situation, especially the Durbar celebrations, because inhabitants feared that violent confrontations were bound to occur. They appealed for peaceful coexistence and called upon the police to take every necessary action to ensure order.

CP Bakori confirmed reports of certain groups planning parallel celebrations, which would heighten tensions and lead to clashes. He, however, assured members of the public that police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were re-strategizing, consulting key stakeholders, and looking at a number of options that would ensure peace and stability.

He urged the people to remain calm, focus on peace, and to report suspicious persons to the nearest police station or through the following emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

Peace is essential. As we celebrate this joyous occasion, we cannot forget to set aside our differences and come together for the development of our state and country, the statement read.

The Police Command also called on community leaders, religious leaders, and opinion leaders to join forces in spreading peace and calming tensions with a view to having a peaceful and joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration for all.
