Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo is taking a stand, calling out what she sees as unfair treatment by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCC) and controversial social media figure Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In a heartfelt petition sent on July 29 to Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Iyabo, through her legal team at The Maverick Forte Legal, detailed a troubling experience during a recent questioning session in Abuja, accusing the police of bias, misconduct, and even breaching her privacy.
The trouble stems from a cyberbullying and defamation case brought against her by music artists Naira Marley and Sam Larry, whom Iyabo had openly criticized after the 2023 death of singer Mohbad.
But what should have been a straightforward investigation felt anything but fair to her.
According to her petition, VDM—a civilian and a defendant in a separate case where Iyabo is a witness—was inexplicably allowed to waltz into the interrogation room.
There, she claims, he casually sipped coffee alongside the police and the complainants, as if he were part of the investigation team.
Her lawyers called this a blatant violation of her privacy and proper procedure.
Iyabo’s team didn’t stop there. They pointed to an unsettlingly close relationship between Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Henry Uche and VDM, suggesting it gave the social media personality free rein in the police facility.
Even more concerning, Iyabo alleges that private details from her interrogation were leaked online, and she believes VDM is behind it, putting her safety at risk.
Feeling let down by the process, Iyabo is now demanding action.
She wants an independent investigation into the officers’ conduct, the case moved to Lagos, and an end to what she calls a “tainted and partial” investigation.
She also shared that a petition she filed against VDM back in December 2024 has been ignored, and out of concern for her health and safety, she’s refusing to attend any more sessions in Abuja.
The drama has set social media ablaze, with Nigerians picking sides.
Some are cheering Iyabo’s boldness, like @shirleykib, who questioned how VDM was allowed to casually join the interrogation, asking, “Does VDM now work for the Nigerian police force?”
Others, like @ladymitchy_, praised her as “audacious, smart, and intelligent.”
But not everyone’s on her side—@lordbizmak wondered who’s advising her, calling her actions a mistake, while @truehomesrealty argued that Naira Marley had the right to bring whoever he wanted into the room, claiming Iyabo lost her “privilege” by accusing him.
