“It’s Like Being in a Zoo” – Tems On Coping With Celebrity

Tems, a talented vocalist, discusses the difficulties of fame and success as she explains why she abandoned Afrobeats for R&B. According to the most recent issue of Interview Magazine, she discussed with the American rapper Kendrick Lamar the topic at hand.

Tems noted that being successful typically involves constraints and obstacles, but she attempts to overcome them by being herself.

She stated…

“When you become more well-known or visible, it’s tempting to become preoccupied with the question, ‘What do people expect of me now? However, I find myself wondering, “What do I expect of myself now?” Because you are the one who must live with yourself, you are the one who must sleep with your decisions. Trusting yourself is crucial, and I won’t cease trusting my instincts just because people can now see me. Comparable to being in a menagerie. The animals do not alter their behavior simply because you are observing them. They will always remain who they are. Then why should I alter?”

The Grammy-winning artist also discussed her love for R&B and how she had abandoned Afrobeats in favor of it. According to the singer, all she intended to accomplish with R&B was to convey a message.
