The House of Representatives has donated N705 million from their salaries to fund President Bola Tinubu’s humanitarian activities to support vulnerable Nigerians.
In a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, the donation is a 50% deduction of the lawmakers’ salaries for six months.
The donation was officially made on Monday evening, March 17, 2025, when members of the House of Representatives visited President Tinubu to break Iftar (end of Ramadan fast) at New Banquet Hall of Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, mentioned that the financial contribution was gifted to add to Tinubu’s contribution in addressing issues of humanitarian concerns across the country.
“In behalf of the House of Reps, the Hon. Speaker donated the sum of N705,000,000 (Seven Hundred and Five Million Naira), which he clarified is a six-month fifty per cent sacrifice of their salaries for complementing the humanitarian initiatives of Mr. President and for the welfare of vulnerable citizens in Nigeria,” the statement of the presidency further adds.
