Security operatives on Wednesday intensified surveillance around the Nasarawa Mini-Palace in Kano, where the embattled former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, resides. Motorists were diverted to alternative routes as security personnel restricted access to the area, fueling speculation about unfolding events. Although the palace has always had a security presence, residents noted that movement had never been obstructed to this extent.
Police Cite Intelligence on Planned Protest
Kano State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, attributed the heightened security to credible intelligence reports indicating a planned violent protest.
“Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety,” Kiyawa stated.
He further revealed that 17 suspected thugs had been arrested, with investigations ongoing.
Warning Against Unlawful Gatherings
The police warned individuals and groups against unlawful gatherings, protests, or acts of violence, assuring that security agencies would act swiftly to maintain public order.
