Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday, formally presented the staff and certificate of office to Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, marking his official ascension as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. The brief ceremony, held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, on January 13, highlighted the Alaafin’s critical role as a custodian of history and tradition. Governor Makinde expressed confidence in Oba Owoade’s ability to lead with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to the unity of the Oyo Kingdom.
In his remarks, Oba Owoade expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo for their support and pledged to prioritize the kingdom’s development and the welfare of its residents. The new monarch succeeds Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who reigned for 51 years before his passing. Oba Owoade’s appointment as Alaafin of Oyo was announced by the Oyo State government last Friday.
