Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has expressed her concern over the growing problem of piracy in the Nigerian film industry, urging fans to take a stand against it.
As her new film Everybody Loves Jenifa is set to hit cinemas on December 13, the box office star took to social media to warn against piracy, a practice that she says is harming the industry.
In a passionate message, Funke condemned the act of recording videos in cinemas, calling it a form of piracy and urging people to stop engaging in such activities. “SAY NO TO PIRACY!!! Recording short videos at the cinemas is piracy!!! Please stop it!!! Piracy is killing us!! I worked so hard on this project. Please, I’m pleading, do not be caught promoting piracy!!!” she wrote.
She highlighted the immense effort and resources she has invested in making the movie, stressing the negative impact piracy has on filmmakers and the industry as a whole.
