Frank Edwards, one of the most popular gospel singers, has taken to social media to praise his mother on Mother’s Day, reminiscing on how she once saved him from signing a $320,000 (N492 million equivalent today) music deal that would have lost him the rights to his work.
Edwards has remembered a turning point in his life when he was approached by a music band with a lucrative offer to purchase his entire catalog.
While the money offer was tempting, his mother was opposed vehemently and insisted that the offer was not from God.
Although she had supported his music career by providing him with N150,000 to establish his studio, she went beyond the material reward and went to great lengths to shield him.
She went to the extent of confiscating his passport to stop him from traveling abroad to complete the deal.
“The very first time in my life, years ago, I was about closing a $320,000 deal with a group who were ready to virtually own the majority of my catalogue. You said NO!
And let me quote you: ‘The 150,000 naira I gave you to initiate that studio is greater than that money, just give it time. They are not of God,'”‘ Edwards wrote.
He did not understand his mother’s reasoning at the time. “I was thinking, ‘How is 150,000 Naira more than $320,000?'” he admitted.
All these years later, Edwards finally understands his mother’s common sense and spiritual sense and realizes her decision affected his life.
“Now I understand. There is just so much to say! But as I mentioned, this space is not sufficient!
Happy Mother’s Day, mum!!! Thanks for everything. Thanks for an impenetrable wall of fire!
Thanks for always telling me the mind of God about what I’m doing. None of your words reach the ground because you truly hear from God,” he went on.
