Folorunso Jeremiah: Designing Digital Solutions for Impact and Innovation

Folorunso Jeremiah is a product designer at Soft Alliance & Resource, where he specializes in creating user-friendly digital solutions. His work focuses on designing applications that enhance user experiences in an increasingly digital world.

Reflecting on his career, Jeremiah explains:

“I do product (UI/UX) design, and it is really about creating solutions for people like you and me. We live in a digital world, and most of what we used to do before is now on our phones. So, my work focuses on designing those applications and ensuring that you and I have pleasant experiences while making use of them.”

A Passion for Design and Technology

Jeremiah’s journey into UI/UX design began during his university years while pursuing a computer science degree. He discovered a passion for design and found that product design perfectly blended his interests in design, colors, and computer science.

“I wanted to make sure my degree had a relation to my passion, and product (UI/UX) design ensured it was,” he says.

His work has made a significant impact, with thousands of people within and outside Nigeria using his designs.

“Seeing my designs being used widely is a huge success. I count it as a great achievement knowing I have created and continue to create impactful and needed solutions,” he adds.

Mentorship and Teaching: A Source of Fulfillment

Beyond his work in design, Jeremiah finds deep fulfillment in mentoring aspiring designers.

“One of my biggest success stories is hearing positive feedback from early-stage designers I have mentored,” he shares.

He previously taught UI/UX design at Terra Learning (now Sidehustle Internship), where his lessons and pre-recorded videos helped many students gain a foothold in the field. The response from these learners has reinforced his commitment to supporting the next generation of designers.

The Growing Importance of UI/UX Design in Nigeria

Jeremiah believes product design holds immense potential for societal transformation, particularly in Nigeria and Africa. Well-designed digital solutions are already making life easier, particularly in sectors like banking, where transactions that once required physical visits to banks can now be completed seamlessly through mobile applications.

“The role of UI/UX design in this scenario is crucial, ensuring that users can interact with these applications easily and intuitively,” he explains.

Challenges in the Field

Despite the growing demand for digital solutions, Jeremiah acknowledges challenges in Nigeria’s UI/UX industry. Access to reliable data is limited due to the scarcity of data banks and publications. Additionally, the appreciation for design is still relatively low, as the field is in its early stages in Nigerian society.

Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about its growth and potential for further development.

Advice for Aspiring Designers

Jeremiah encourages those interested in UI/UX design to stay committed to continuous learning and practice.

“Design, design, design,” he advises.

He emphasizes the importance of reading widely to expand one’s knowledge and create more effective solutions. Above all, he urges aspiring designers to prioritize user satisfaction and excellence, assuring them that success is within reach with dedication and persistence.
