FIFA confirmed that the new-format Club World Cup’s first edition winner could receive a massive $125 million prize money. Fédération Internationale de Football Association’s President, Gianni Infantino, made this revelation on Wednesday in a statement.
The total prize money for the tournament, which is held between June 14 and July 13, is $1 billion. FIFA has now announced how the money will be distributed among the 32 participating teams. Each team will be entitled to a portion of the $525 million allocated for taking part. An extra $475 million will be given out depending on teams’ performances in the tournament.
According to reports, the winning team, after playing seven matches, can potentially get up to $125 million, including bonuses. European clubs will be paid the majority of the money. Each club will be paid a sum of money between $12.81 million and $38.19 million depending on sporting and commercial factors.
South American clubs will each be paid $15.21 million for appearing. North and Central American, Caribbean, Asian, and African clubs will receive $9.55 million. Auckland City, Oceania’s sole club, will get $3.58 million for appearing in the tournament.
