The federal government, through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has appealed to state governments reconsidering the dissolution or downgrading of their ministries of information to reverse such decisions.
Speaking in Kaduna at the 48th National Council of Information and National Orientation, themed “Enhancing Public Information Management for Inclusive Governance: The Renewed Hope Agenda in Focus,” Idris emphasized the pivotal role these ministries play in governance.
“The ministries of information are not mere administrative bodies; they are essential drivers of public engagement, national orientation, and social cohesion,” he stated. Idris highlighted their critical role in fostering transparency, accountability, and trust between the government and citizens.
He stressed that ministries of information serve as platforms for public sensitization, educating citizens about government policies and combating misinformation that could undermine public trust. “In an era where information is both a tool and a weapon, having a dedicated body to manage its dissemination is indispensable,” he added.
Addressing the theme of the council, Idris described President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a transformative vision rooted in inclusive and transparent governance, aimed at improving citizens’ lives and fostering national progress.
