Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have recovered 10 additional stolen manhole covers in Abuja, reinforcing efforts to combat infrastructure vandalism in the nation’s capital. The latest recovery, made in Dei-Dei, followed a tip-off from a vigilant resident. With this latest seizure, the total number of recovered manhole covers in the FCT now stands at 125.
Police Crack Down on Infrastructure Theft
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that the stolen items were hidden in a pit, marking yet another breakthrough in the fight against public asset theft. This comes on the heels of a major operation last week, in which FCT Police, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF) set up by FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike, recovered several stolen public assets.
Commissioner Warns Vandals
Reacting to the development, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on vandalism, warning criminals to desist or face legal action.
“We are intensifying efforts to dismantle networks involved in infrastructure theft. Our operatives will continue searching for stolen public assets and uncovering illegal storage sites,” Disu stated.
Public Urged to Stay Vigilant
