Due to the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitri Sallah celebration and anticipated boom in flight operations and passengers traffic, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has called on passengers to be guided by the law and not vandalize airports and airlines property for flight reschedule and cancellation and delays.
FAAN managing director, Olubunmi Kuku, at a break of fast with Muslim communities at the Lagos airport while attending an Iftar dinner, told passengers to be patient as no airline will go out of its way to cancel or postpone any flight unnecessarily.
Kuku, through FAAN director of Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood also counseled passengers to arrive at airports early and also respect Airlines’ right.
He has said, “We beg that travelers must be educated by the law. You buy your ticket, you go to the airport and when there is an issue, they should know with the airline. All this coming, complaining, fighting, breaking things, is not playing to anyone’s benefit. I have never ever seen anywhere in the world that people do that. So we must hold on.We must listen.”. Yes, we must study our rights, and we also need to study the rights of airlines. We must know that each human being has his/her own rights.
Mahmood affirmed that, “the airlines have rights, in as much as you have your rights as passengers, they have their rights also. So, understand that this right is very, very important. And to make sure that what you call it, then go to the airport on time and then maintain good behaviour at the airport is important.”
He disclosed that the agency is working on implementing that all the airports within the country are in compliance.
“We are anticipating it and we are doing everything humanly possible to make sure that our airports are compliant.
We also make sure that whatever it is, our airport facilities, the runways and everything is ready for full facilitation of our passengers’ travels,” he furthered.
Also commenting on bringing an end to touting in the country’s airports, Capt. Momodu said, FAAN is not resting on its oars in bringing an end to touting in the airports.
“Yes, you can see the comment of passengers. At least people are seen, people are becoming aware. We are taking it very, very seriously. Yes, it’s not something you don’t think will change immediately.”.
It’s the same situation that any time they tell you that you want to fight corruption, corruption, fight back. You have to understand that there are some people who are gaining from this and you want to push them out of what they are doing. Whatever it is, they will fight back, but we are ready. We are resilient. We are fighting back and we are raising awareness to allow people to understand that what they are doing is wrong, he said.
