US President, Donald Trump reacted to news that Billionaire Tesla owner, Elon Musk was being shown US plans for a potential war with China during a visit to the Pentagon on Friday by stating he would not like to present such plans “to anybody.” Trump commented as there was speculation over why Musk was at the Pentagon Friday morning, March 21, when he met for over an hour with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
The New York Times in a report Trump deemed “fake” reported Thursday that Musk was briefed on the US military strategy for possible war with China. Pentagon officials strongly refuted the report. Trump acknowledged that Musk also has his own business interests in China, which would be a conflict of interest if he were being briefed on a potential war plan against the nation.
Musk serving as a special government employee for Trump has been reported to have a top-secret security clearance. Hegseth stated the Defense Department would be teaming up with Musk’s DOGE to find fraud and waste within the department.
Musk also has lucrative deals with the Defense Department. The US Space Force awarded SpaceX, owned by Musk, $733 million worth of launch contracts in October 2024.
