Music executive Efe Omorogbe has shed light on his involvement in the mediation process between Eezee Tee, the head of Eezee Conceptz, and his former signees, gospel artists Mercy Chinwo and Judikay. In a video shared on his social media, Omorogbe detailed the events of the mediation session, which took place on May 13, 2024.

Omorogbe revealed that the mediation team included Eezee T’s legal counsel, the attorneys representing Mercy Chinwo and Judikay, and Apostle Anselm Madubuko, alongside himself. He explained that he was invited to participate as an expert in the music business, tasked with providing clarity on industry practices, particularly concerning Master’s rights.

During the session, Omorogbe explained the ownership structure of Master’s rights, emphasizing that such rights are typically retained by the record label. He outlined the conditions under which these rights could be transferred to an artist, highlighting the standard industry practice of buying them back.

Using Burna Boy’s past dealings with Spaceship Records as an example, Omorogbe illustrated how artists can reclaim their master recordings. He advised Mercy Chinwo and Judikay that if they wished to regain ownership of their master recordings, they would need to pay a fair value determined by Eezee Conceptz.

“I made it clear,” Omorogbe said, “If you want to buy back your masters, a value is drawn up, negotiations take place, and once an agreement is reached, you pay the estimation. It’s a simple buy-and-sell arrangement.”

Omorogbe stressed the importance of following standard practices in the music industry to avoid misunderstandings between record labels and artists.
