Presiding over the case, Justice M. Omovie convicted Suleiman Musa, Umar Mohammed, and Garba Abubakar Haruna (alias Dogo) on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and the murder of the monarch. The defendants were found guilty of abducting the royal father and Pastor Charles Afamefuna Ugboh, who testified as an eyewitness after surviving the ordeal.
The court also sentenced a fourth defendant, Jemilu Ahmed, to imprisonment for being in possession of the monarch’s stolen handset and receiving robbed property.
Prosecutors from the Delta State Ministry of Justice, led by Director of Public Prosecutions Anthony Orhorhoro, called five witnesses to prove the case, establishing beyond reasonable doubt the defendants’ involvement in the crimes.
Justice Omovie subsequently sentenced Musa, Mohammed, and Haruna to death by hanging for their roles in the tragic killing of Obi Edward Akaelue Ofulue III.
