DANGOTE CALLS HIS $50M AIRCRAFT A “TOY,” SPARKS SOCIAL MEDIA FRENZY

Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has set social media ablaze after casually referring to his $50 million aircraft (roughly N75.2 billion) as his “most expensive toy” during a candid chat with young people.

The business mogul, whose current net worth stands at $28.2 billion according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, offered a glimpse into his spending philosophy that left many Nigerians reconsidering their own relationship with money.

“Money is something that is really very funny, you can have it today and won’t be there tomorrow,” Dangote mused, before emphasizing his cautious approach to spending.

When asked about his priciest purchase, his response was surprisingly modest: “The most expensive toy I have ever bought was my aircraft, I bought one that cost me about $50M.”

The choice of words from the founder of the Dangote Group – a massive conglomerate spanning cement, sugar, flour, salt, fertilizer, petroleum refining, and more – sparked a flood of reactions on social media.

Some users were amused by his characterization of an aircraft as a “toy,” while others noted his careful word choice and humble demeanor.

“Imagine aircraft na toy… and it’s the most expensive. These people go make you dey reason anyhow,” wrote @iamfreshie, while @jindiyas offered a more practical take: “That aircraft is a necessity. You really need it for the way you travel for business.”

During the interview, Dangote also shared wisdom about building wealth, emphasizing the importance of honesty, reputation, and hard work – though he admitted a little luck doesn’t hurt.

Meanwhile, social media couldn’t help but notice the admiring glances from female attendees, with @manlikenotch quipping, “See as all the girl’s Dey blush, he is the most handsome man they ever met in their life.”
