COAS Oluyede Unveils Welfare Initiatives, Boosts Troop Morale at Annual Conference

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of personnel and families of fallen heroes. At the opening of the 2024 COAS Annual Conference in Abuja on Monday, Oluyede presented financial cheques to next-of-kin (NOKs) of deceased soldiers under the Group Life Insurance Scheme and handed over Hilux vehicles to 12 Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) as part of morale-boosting initiatives.

In his address, Oluyede emphasized the importance of sustaining and enhancing welfare support programs for the families of fallen and injured personnel. He outlined initiatives such as timely financial aid, healthcare access, and educational sponsorships for dependents, aimed at providing stability to affected families.

“By prioritizing these welfare initiatives, we honour their service and reinforce our duty of care, ensuring that the families of our fallen and injured personnel are respected,” he stated.

To maintain operational efficiency and troop well-being, Oluyede promised systematic rotations for field personnel to prevent fatigue, preserve mental and physical health, and enhance overall effectiveness. He commended the sacrifices of officers and soldiers, urging them to surpass this year’s achievements.

The COAS also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his strategic guidance and unwavering support, pledging the Army’s total commitment to defending Nigeria’s Constitution.

Earlier, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim, acknowledged the Army’s significant strides in combating internal and external threats but noted ongoing challenges, particularly in the Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions. He stressed that the conference serves as an opportunity to assess operations and improve overall performance.

The annual conference underscores the Nigerian Army’s resolve to boost welfare, morale, and operational effectiveness in safeguarding national security.
