Caucasian Woman Causes Stir Over Chimamanda Adichie’s Suspected Surrogacy

A Caucasian woman on X (previously Twitter) has caused commotion after condemning celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for supposedly bringing her twin sons through surrogacy.

The woman, who goes by the handle @Poppy_yyyyyyyy, lashed out at the rumor, citing that it is hypocritical given Adichie’s views on women’s rights.

Adichie recently revealed in an interview on her new book, Dream Count, that she had given birth to twins. But she did not specify if she gave birth naturally or used a surrogate.

Reacting to the news, @Poppy_yyyyyyyy tweeted, “Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie using a surrogate to have twin boys is ridiculously disappointing.”

Her comment sparked a mixed reaction on social media. Some came to Adichie’s defense, saying that she might have had fertility problems.

@Faythememer responded: “She could have had problems with fertility, though.”

@Poppy_yyyyyyyy retorted: “That’s not an excuse to buy a baby.”

@Jenny27051995 posted: “Just love her books… we all have our vices.”

@Poppy_yyyyyyyy responded: “Love her books too and thought she was so courageous campaigning for women’s rights. It’s very disappointing that she thinks those rights only belong to certain women.”

@UChigbu53414 responded: “Who cares what you feel about her? When did surrogacy become criminalized. People, even your favorites, have been doing it, but since it is Chimamanda, you need to complain.”

@JoolzDenby added: “Why would it be surprising that an affluent, pampered woman with minimal contact with people other than herself purchases a child from a poor woman rather than subjecting her to risk and ‘hassle’?”

@Poppy_yyyyyyyy summarized: “All the things I’ve read of hers make me think she’s acutely conscious of class/race/sex stuff. I thought she was better than that. More fool me.”
