Ini Edo Apologises to CAN Over ‘A Very Dirty Christmas’ Title After Public Backlash

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ini Edo has issued a heartfelt apology to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) following widespread criticism over the title of her new movie, A Very Dirty Christmas. The actress addressed the controversy during an emotional Instagram Live session, where she responded to concerns from CAN and members of the Christian community who described the title as offensive to the faith. Ini Edo explained that the title was meant purely as a creative expression and was never intended to ridicule Christmas or disrespect Christianity. “If I had known the title A Very Dirty Christmas would cause this kind of reaction, I would have changed it,” she said. “I sincerely apologise to CAN and the Christian community. I am a Christian, and everyone involved in this production is Christian. We prayed and honoured God throughout the entire process. It was never our intention to insult or disgrace Christianity.” She admitted that the backlash deeply affected her, noting that she did not expect the title to generate such hurt and misunderstanding. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the family drama, which was released in cinemas on December 16, triggered intense public debate and prompted an official complaint from CAN. In its statement, CAN described the movie title as “offensive and a mockery” of the Christian faith, arguing that linking the sacred Christmas season with the word “dirty” diminishes its spiritual meaning. The association called on the producers to reconsider the title and issue a public apology. CAN also raised concerns over how the film received approval from the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB). Reacting to the issue, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NFVCB, Dr Shaibu Husseini, said the board approved and classified the film based on its fictional and creative nature. However, he acknowledged that public perception plays a crucial role in effective regulation. According to him, the board has since opened discussions with the film’s producers on the possibility of modifying the title, stressing that religious sensitivity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence remain central to its regulatory responsibilities.

Nigeria’s Economy Records Year-Long Growth in 2025, Says FG

The Federal Government says Nigeria’s economy recorded steady growth throughout 2025, expanding consistently for 12 straight months despite global and local economic pressures. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed this on Monday in Abuja while presenting the government’s end-of-year performance scorecard. According to Idris, data from the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) a key measure of business confidence showed uninterrupted expansion in economic activities across the country all through the year. “The latest PMI figures clearly indicate that Nigeria has experienced 12 consecutive months of expansion in economic activity,” he said. He explained that the performance highlights the resilience of the non-oil sector, even as the economy contends with inflation and global uncertainties. The minister disclosed that Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 3.98 per cent in the third quarter of 2025, driven mainly by growth in the services, trade and manufacturing sectors. He also noted that headline inflation eased for eight straight months, dropping to 14.45 per cent in November 2025. In addition, Idris said the country’s external reserves improved significantly, rising to about $44.56 billion. “Our external reserves now stand at approximately $44.56 billion. This provides a strong buffer for currency stability and boosts confidence among international investors,” he said. He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains focused on strengthening macroeconomic stability and ensuring that economic growth leads to better living conditions for citizens. Looking ahead, Idris said the 2026 budget would focus on security, infrastructure, youth empowerment and social welfare to sustain the positive momentum. “The mission for 2026 is to build a secure, competitive and prosperous Nigeria,” he said, adding that reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration are beginning to deliver long-term gains. Broken Jaw, Unbroken Spirit: Jake Paul Reveals Brutal Injury, Vows to Return Stronger

The price of challenging a giant was written in bone. Jake Paul has revealed the brutal extent of his injuries following his stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua, posting a startling X-ray that confirms his jaw was broken in two places during the heavyweight clash in Miami. Despite a valiant effort to use speed and footwork against the two-time world champion, the punishing power of ‘AJ’ was too much. Paul was sent to the canvas repeatedly, and as he struggled to beat the count in the sixth round, he knew something was seriously wrong. “I think it’s definitely broken,” he admitted, grimacing through the pain. But even with a shattered jaw that forced him to skip the post-fight press conference and drive himself to the hospital Paul’s defiant and brash spirit remained intact. In a classic move, he joked on social media that he’d be ready to take on pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez “in 10 days.” The reality, however, is a mandated four-to-six-week recovery. The fight, which drew criticism for its significant gap in weight and experience, served as a harsh lesson. Now, the YouTuber-turned-boxer is ready to go back to the drawing board. “I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years,” Paul stated, acknowledging the toll of his relentless career. His next move is clear: heal up and head back to a division where he belongs. “We will heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight. I’m going for the cruiserweight world title,” he declared. It’s a logical and necessary reset. After a high-risk detour to the land of heavyweights, Paul is refocusing on his original mission: proving his legitimacy and capturing a world title in a division built for him. Ranked in the WBA’s top 15 at cruiserweight, he has a clear path forward once he’s cleared to fight in 2026. The road ahead is already taking shape. A domestic showdown with undefeated Manchester prospect Pat Brown is a possibility, as is a highly anticipated rematch with the only other man to defeat him, Tommy Fury. And, of course, the ever-ambitious Paul will no doubt continue to chase a superfight with his dream opponent, Canelo Alvarez. For now, though, it’s about healing. The loss to Joshua was a painful setback, but for Jake Paul, it’s just another chapter in a story he’s determined to finish as a champion.

Activist Harrison Gwamnishu Granted Bail After Arrest Over Kidnapping Ransom Case

An Edo State High Court has granted bail to activist and humanitarian Harrison Gwamnishu after weeks in police custody over allegations stemming from a kidnapping ransom negotiation. Gwamnishu was arrested earlier this month following his involvement in negotiations with kidnappers who abducted a young couple in Edo State. The abductors initially demanded ₦50 million for the victims’ release. According to reports, the victims’ family contacted Gwamnishu for help, and he agreed to serve as an intermediary. Through his intervention, the kidnappers reduced their demand to ₦20 million. The family claims they gave Gwamnishu the ₦20 million to deliver to the abductors. However, after receiving the payment, the kidnappers allegedly discovered some of the ransom money was missing. They then released the pregnant wife but kept the husband in captivity. Gwamnishu has strongly denied any wrongdoing. He insists he has a standard process for dealing with kidnappers and maintains he didn’t take any portion of the ransom money. The family subsequently reported the matter to police, leading to Gwamnishu’s arrest and detention in Edo State. Ossai Success Ovie, an aide to the Delta State Governor, confirmed that the Edo State High Court has now granted Gwamnishu bail. The decision brings relief to his supporters, who have been demanding his release while investigations continue into the case. The activist remains under investigation as authorities work to establish exactly what happened during the ransom negotiations.

Buhari’s Daughter Claims Father’s Signature Was Forged on Official Documents During Presidency

Fatima Buhari has made explosive allegations about her father’s time in office, claiming the late former President Muhammadu Buhari‘s signature was forged on government documents. The forensic auditor revealed these concerns in a new biography, From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, written by Charles Omole. She says she personally examined several documents with what appeared to be fake signatures and alerted her father. Fatima emphasized she wasn’t alone in raising red flags, others in government circles also questioned whether certain documents were genuinely signed by the president. She noted that signature forgery wasn’t exclusive to her father’s administration, claiming previous governments faced similar problems. The book reveals another troubling practice: Buhari’s speeches and official directives were sometimes altered after he’d already approved them. Fatima recalls one incident during a U.S. trip when her father was speaking at a conference. She noticed him pausing repeatedly while reading his remarks, unusual behavior for him. “You were stopping,” she told him afterward. Buhari explained the speech had been changed without his knowledge. He eventually abandoned the altered script and spoke off the cuff instead, telling his daughter such changes happened regularly. The family gradually noticed a pattern where presidential orders were watered down or rewritten as they passed through bureaucratic channels. While some changes seemed like administrative errors, the book suggests others were deliberate moves by a powerful inner circle. Perhaps most striking is the claim that Buhari believed his State House residence was bugged. This fear led him to avoid open conversations, even with family members. The biography describes instances where Fatima and her father communicated through gestures and handwritten notes, worried their conversations were being monitored. Buhari reportedly suspected listening devices were planted in his Presidential Villa office. Some security chiefs who served under him later confirmed that suspicious objects were found during routine security sweeps of his office and living quarters, according to the book.

Abuja Residents React as FCTA Proposes Noise Pollution Fees for Generator Owners

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reportedly unveiled a new policy that would require generator owners in Abuja to pay fees over noise pollution, sparking concern among residents and business owners across the city. A notice recently spotted at a business premises in Zone 11 of the FCT suggests that the administration plans to regulate noise levels generated by private power generators, which have become a common fixture due to unreliable electricity supply. The development has drawn mixed reactions, with many residents arguing that generators are not a luxury but a necessity in Abuja. “In Abuja, we rely on generators because there is no guarantee of stable power. Penalising us for that feels unfair,” said Chinedu Okafor, a small business owner operating in the city centre. Critics of the proposed policy fear it could place an additional financial burden on individuals and small businesses already struggling with high operating costs. They also argue that the policy appears to target generator users without addressing the root cause, inconsistent public power supply. So far, the FCTA has not released details on how the noise pollution fees would be assessed or enforced, leaving residents uncertain about how the policy might affect them if fully implemented. Environmental advocates, however, note that noise pollution is a legitimate public health issue. They stress that any regulatory framework should balance environmental concerns with the reality that many residents depend on generators for daily living and business operations. Some Abuja residents are calling on the government to consider alternative approaches, such as incentives for cleaner and quieter energy solutions, before enforcing any penalties related to generator use.
